Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology enables energy to flow both to and from your electric vehicle, allowing you to power your home as well as the neighboring energy grid. Rather than your EV being just a user of energy, it can be an asset for your home, help you save on energy usage costs and act as an important grid-balancing tool.
When plugged in with AGL, your V2G enabled vehicle can:
• Charge from solar or the grid (as normal)
• Use stored energy to power your home to help reduce your household energy bill
• Send surplus energy back to your local grid and earn export credits
AGL is launching our innovative V2G trial which aims to help customers maximise the potential of their electric vehicles by using them not only as a form of transport but also as a source of energy to power their homes.
AGL is leveraging our expertise from helping thousands of customers manage their home and transport energy needs.
AGL’s V2G trial brings together:
All major national electricity market Distribution Network Service Providers in Victoria (Ausnet, Jemena, CitiPower, PowerCor, United Energy), NSW (Ausgrid, Endeavor Energy, Essential Energy), QLD (Ergon, Energex) and SA (SA Power Networks)
leading EV manufacturers (BYD, Hyundai, Kia and Zeekr)
EV supply equipment providers
By establishing a “collaborative V2G ecosystem”, we want to make it easy for more customers to connect to a sustainable future - meeting their changing needs in the way they live, move, and work.
The trial will include up to 100 customers in two phases:
AGL supplied V2G charger (up to 50 customers in the first phase)
A discounted bi-directional EV charger, capable of both power input and output
Opportunity for bill savings with participants being able to charge their EV battery when their energy plan prices are lower and power their home using their EV battery when their energy plan prices are higher
Earn peak export credits when energy is fed back to the grid within specified periods of peak demand.
Bring Your Own V2G charger (up to 50 customers in the second phase)
BYO bi-directional EV charger, that meets AGL’s eligibility requirements
Opportunity for bill savings with participants being able to charge their EV battery when their energy plan prices are lower and power their home using their EV battery when their energy plan prices are higher
Earn peak export credits when energy is fed back to the grid within specified periods of peak demand.
AGL is also working towards expanding this trial so that customers maintain control with the ability to tell AGL’s V2G platform when they want their car charged and ready to drive.
AGL recognises the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we work, and we acknowledge those communities' continuing connections to their lands, waters and cultures. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
