Frequently asked questions about the Mistubishi Outlander PHEV

What does PHEV mean in relation to the Mistubishi Outlander?

PHEV, or Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles have both an engine (either diesel or petrol) and a battery. Typically, PHEVs have a smaller battery range than other electric vehicles. This means that you can drive electric during small city trips, but be ready to fill up for the road trip you've been planning!

What is the electric range of the Mistubishi Outlander PHEV?

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has an electric only range of approximately 54km. The actual petrol and electric combined range is 595km however this can vary depending on a number of factors; such as how you drive (acceleration and deceleration), the weather (colder weather can drain a battery slightly quicker) and whether or not you have air conditioning on.

How much does it cost to charge the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV?

As the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV only has a small 13.8kWh battery, it doesn't cost very much at all to charge. Charging from home is the cheapest option as you'll just be paying what you pay for electricity at your property.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has a 13.8kWh battery, so to work out what it would cost to charge up to full capacity, simply multiply the kWh rate for electricity by 13.8.

Here's an example: $0.28c/kWh of electricity x 13.8 (the kWh battery capacity of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV) = $3.85

It is important to remember that this is a Plug In Hybrid vehicle so you still need to fill the tank with petrol in addition to charging the battery.

When does the engine operate in a PHEV?

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV's petrol engine automatically kicks in starts  when a large amount of drive power is required, or when the battery is running low and needs charging. In certain cases when the climate control system is engaged the engine may also supply heat. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV can continue in EV Drive mode while the engine charges the battery. The engine can supply drive power to assist the electric motors if needed.
