Like most things in life, there are pros and cons to both single-phase and 3-phase options.
Single-phase chargers
+ Cheaper to install
+ Great for overnight charging
– EVs can draw a lot of power so if you have other high energy items in your house (especially a second EV) you may find you aren't able to draw enough power to run everything at the same time. Check your single phase charger has 'Load Balancing' to mitigate this concern.
3-Phase chargers
+ Charge your EV more quickly that single-phase
+ Run multiple high-energy appliances at the same time
– Installation costs are expensive if you don't already have 3-phase power as you'll need to run new cables to your home
– A number of EVs are limited to 11kW AC charging so are unable to charge at the full 22kW that 3-phase chargers can offer.
