Charging your EV with solar power

If you have rooftop solar power, you’ll be able to charge your EV with solar energy — provided you have the right charger.

Your car will receive solar energy when the panels are producing more energy than your house needs.

The amount of solar power that charges your car will depend on how much electricity your solar system generates and whether you're running other appliances at the same time. But if there isn't enough power in your solar system to charge the car, grid power will be used to make up the shortfall.

EV energy plan

EV drivers save a lot in petrol costs every year. That said, they do increase your electricity usage.

To help with the transition, AGL is offering EV users a charging plan that includes up to $200 in annual credits and is carbon offset for 12 months. It’s just one of the ways AGL is working to support EV ownership in Australia.
