If you're out on the road and require a charge, the team at plugshare have created a map to assist you. You'll need to create your own account for the individual charging station providers.
If the charging station is free or does not require an extra payment method, then the EV will start charging automatically.
If the charging station is not free, then check the instructions on the charger to confirm the available payment methods i.e. mobile app, credit card or dedicated charge card. For example, ChargeFox chargers can be used by adding your credit card to the ChargeFox app.
The cost to charge your EV will depend on the type of public charger.
Level 2 AC public charging costs approximately $0.30 - $0.50 per kWh; and Level 3 public DC fast charging costs approximately $0.50 - $0.90 per kWh.
You can charge your electric car using one of three types of charging stations: Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. The main difference is how long they take to provide a full charge (with Level 1 being the slowest and Level 3 being the fastest).
Level 1 Chargers
Level 1 chargers (AC) are portable and allow you to plug your car into a standard power point and will give you about 15kms of charge per hour
Level 2 Chargers
Level 2 chargers (AC) provide around 40-60kms of charge per hour using your regular household electricity.
Level 3 Chargers
Level 3 chargers (DC) can charge a car up to 80% of its capacity in less than an hour.
