Home charger eligibility

There are a number of requirements that need to be met to be eligible for a home charger.

Requirements:

  • Must have off-street parking
  • The home meets the requirements for a safe installation.
  • Landlord/body-corp approval, if applicable.
  • Isolation switch when charger is further than 2m from switchboard
  • Most homes are single phase, if choosing a 3-phase charger, there will be additional requirements like cabling to the nearest 3-phase connection and switchboard upgrades.

Installation at rental or apartment

Rental:

You can install an EV charger at your rental as long as you have permission in writing from your landlord (and body corporate if applicable).

We can help you out with a draft landlord letter and even speak to them directly if they have any questions about the installation.

Apartment:

Apartment installations are possible but can be complicated. You'll need permission from your body corporate, and advice from an electrician based on your body corporate's requirements. As most people expect the charging to be "user pays", a key issue is usually getting the power to your place of parking from wherever it is metered for your property/bill.
